The Town of Arlington has received a Municipal Planning Grant (MPG) to rewrite the land use bylaw using strong elements of the existing regulations as a basis for drafting the new document. A rewrite will establish a new, coherent organization for the unified regulations, address a number of specific issues identified by local officials, and implement the Town Plan’s vision for vital, mixed use village centers surrounded by sparsely settled working lands and open space.

The project will progress in three phases:
- Phase I: Clean up language, clarify existing regulations, and reorganize the document for ease of use.
- Phase II: Revise bylaws to promote more diverse, affordable housing options and compact development in the village centers.
- Phase III: Finalize the document and support public input and adoption processes.
