BCRC Receives Additional Funds to Develop Act 174 Town Energy Plans
This fall BCRC is receiving additional funds to support the development of Act 174-compliant municipal energy plans in the region. Act 174, passed in 2016 by the VT legislature, established regional and town planning standards that—if met—give plans substantial deference in Section 248 proceedings of the Public Utility Commission (formerly the Public Service Board) on the siting of energy generation facilities.
Draft enhanced energy chapters have already been prepared with the Towns of Bennington, Dorset, and Sunderland, and these plans are set to begin local hearing processes in the coming months. This fall’s additional funds will support enhanced energy planning in up to four more BCRC towns. The towns of Manchester and Stamford have already expressed interest in receiving assistance to develop enhanced energy elements.
